Real 2kW Solar System Price with Subsidy in 2024

- •System Size: 2 kW (Kilowatts)
- •Gross Cost: ₹1,52,000 – ₹1,65,000 (Inclusive of GST)
- •Central Subsidy (CFA): ₹60,000
- •Net Cost: ₹92,000 – ₹1,05,000
- •Monthly Units Generated: 240 units (average)
- •Payback Period: 3.5 – 4.5 years
A 2kW solar system generates approximately 2,880 units of electricity per year in North India, which is enough to wipe out the electricity bill of a typical 2BHK home using basic appliances and one 1.5-ton 5-star AC. With the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the government has fixed the financial assistance for this specific size, making it the most popular entry-point for middle-class Indian households.
At Bridgeway Power, we’ve seen a massive surge in 2kW inquiries since the subsidy was hiked to ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2kW. If you’re tired of seeing your BSES or DHBVN bill creep up due to surcharges, here is the honest breakdown of what you’ll pay and what you’ll save.
Real 2kW Solar System Price with Subsidy: The Cost Breakdown
When people search for 2kw solar system price with subsidy, they often see conflicting numbers. The reason is simple: some quotes exclude GST, others exclude net-metering charges, and some use outdated subsidy figures.
Under the current 2024-2026 guidelines, the subsidy is fixed regardless of your actual system cost. For a 2kW system, you get ₹60,000 back in your bank account.
Gross vs. Net Price for 2kW Rooftop Solar (2025-2026)
| System Component / Step | Price Range (String Inverter) | Price Range (Micro-Inverter) |
|---|---|---|
| Gross System Price (Incl. GST) | ₹1,52,460 | ₹1,80,000 |
| PM Surya Ghar Subsidy (Fixed) | –₹60,000 | –₹60,000 |
| Net Cost to Homeowner | ₹92,460 | ₹1,20,000 |
Note: These prices include standard GI structure installation. If you need a high-raised pergola structure, expect to add ₹15,000 per kW to the gross price.
If you are looking for the exact 2 kilowatt solar panel cost, you have to look at the "all-in" price. Buying just the panels is useless without the inverter and the mounting structure. Our pricing includes everything from the Topcon Mono PERC modules to the final net metering paperwork.
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: The 2kW Advantage
The government incentivizes smaller systems more heavily. While a 10kW system gets a maximum subsidy of ₹78,000, a 2kW system gets ₹60,000. This means the government covers nearly 40% of your project cost for a 2kW setup, whereas for larger systems, the percentage of coverage drops significantly.
What is included in this price?
We don't believe in hidden costs. When we quote a 2kw solar system price with subsidy, the following items are non-negotiable:
- Modules: 580Wp–620Wp Topcon Mono PERC panels (DCR compliant to ensure you get the subsidy).
- Inverter: A high-efficiency string inverter with a 10-year warranty.
- Structure: Galvanized Iron (GI) structure designed to withstand 150km/h winds.
- BOS (Balance of System): UV-protected DC/AC cables, DCDB/ACDB boxes with SPD and MCB protection, and dedicated earthing for lightning protection.
- Insurance: We include 1-year installation insurance at no extra cost.
Solar System ROI for 2kW: Is it Worth It?
A 2kW system is the "sweet spot" for ROI (Return on Investment). In a city like Delhi, where the per unit electricity rate for the top slab is ₹8, your savings are substantial.
Let’s look at the math for a home in Delhi:
- Annual Generation: ~2,880 units.
- Value of Electricity: 2,880 units × ₹8 = ₹23,040 saved per year.
- Additional GBI (Delhi Only): ₹3 per unit for 5 years = ₹8,640 extra per year.
- Total Annual Benefit: ~₹31,680.
With a net cost of ~₹92,000, you are looking at a payback period of under 3 years in Delhi. Even in Haryana or UP, where there is no GBI, the payback happens within 4 years. Considering the panels have a 30-year performance warranty, you are essentially getting 26 years of free electricity.

Real Example: A 2BHK in Rohini, Delhi

A family living in an independent floor in Rohini was receiving monthly bills of ₹2,500 during winters and ₹5,500 during summers. We installed a 2kW system using four 540Wp DCR modules and a Growatt string inverter.
- System Size: 2kW
- Total Bill Before Solar: ~₹42,000 per year.
- Net Cost after Subsidy: ₹94,000.
- Bill After Solar: ~₹400 (Fixed charges only).
- Result: The system is on track to pay for itself in just 2.8 years, including the Delhi GBI credits they receive every month.
Financing Your 2kW System
Don't want to pay ₹92,000 upfront? The PM Surya Ghar Yojana has made financing incredibly easy. You can get a collateral-free loan for systems up to 3kW.
We work with all major partners to offer competitive rates:
- SBI PM Surya Ghar Loan
- PNB Solar Rooftop Scheme
- Canara Bank Solar Loan
- ECOFY Solar Financing
- Aerem Solar Finance
Most of these banks offer interest rates between 7% and 9% for residential solar, meaning your monthly EMI could be lower than the electricity bill you're currently paying. You can find more details in our guide on solar panel EMI options.
From our installs
We recently completed a 2kW installation for a builder floor in Janakpuri. The client was worried about the weight of the solar panels on their older roof. We used a split-leg GI structure to distribute the load across the beams. The system now generates a steady 8–9 units per day. Caveat: During the peak Delhi smog in November, generation dropped to 5 units a day because the client didn't clean the panels for three weeks. Regular panel cleaning is non-negotiable if you want these numbers.
FAQ
How much space is needed for a 2kW solar system?
A 2kW system typically requires about 160 to 200 square feet of shadow-free rooftop area. Since modern modules are high-wattage (580W+), you only need about 4 panels to complete a 2kW array.
Can I run a 1.5 ton AC on a 2kW solar system?
Yes, but through net metering. The 2kW system exports power to the grid during the day, and you "withdraw" that credit at night or when the AC is running. A 2kW system won't cover the entire load if the AC runs 24/7, but it will significantly offset the units.
How long does it take to get the ₹60,000 subsidy?
Once the system is installed and the net meter is commissioned by the DISCOM (like BSES or PVVNL), you upload the final documents to the National Portal. The subsidy is usually credited to your bank account within 30 to 45 days of inspection.
Is a 2kW system enough for a 3BHK?
It depends on your consumption. If your monthly bill is under ₹3,000, 2kW is plenty. If your bill is consistently above ₹5,000, you should look at a 3kW vs 5kW comparison instead.
Does the 2kW price include net metering?
At Bridgeway Power, we include the facilitation of the net metering process, but the DISCOM application fees and the actual meter cost (if charged by the utility) are usually paid directly by the customer to the DISCOM to maintain transparency.

Every 1 kW of solar on your roof offsets 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ per year
That's 40 trees planted — every year, for 25 years.
A typical 5 kW home system offsets 187 tonnes of carbon over its lifetime. That's equivalent to taking 8 cars off the road.
