PVVNL Noida Solar Net Metering Process Explained

Installation Crew at Work — pvvnl solar connection
    Quick Summary
    • Average Project Timeline: 45–75 days (from portal registration to net meter)
    • Noida Subsidy: ₹1,08,000 (Central ₹78k + UP State ₹30k) for 3kW+
    • Grid Tariff: ~₹7.00/unit (Domestic) | ~₹8.50/unit (Commercial)
    • Payback Period: 3.5–4.5 years for most Noida homes

If you're living in Noida, you're likely paying Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL) around ₹7 per unit for electricity. With the UP Solar Policy and the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana active, a pvvnl solar connection has become the single most effective way to kill that monthly bill.

I’ve spent the last 35+ years in the electrical and solar industry, and I’ve seen hundreds of Noida homeowners get stuck in the "limbo" between finishing their installation and actually getting their net meter installed. The PVVNL process isn't difficult, but it is specific. If you miss one document or your structural design doesn't meet the wind-speed requirements of a Noida high-rise catchment, your application will sit in "Pending" for months.

Step 1: Navigating the PVVNL Rooftop Solar Portal

Everything starts at the PM Surya Ghar Yojana portal. Gone are the days of running to the PVVNL office in Sector 16 with physical files.

When you register, you’ll need your PVVNL Consumer ID (found on the top right of your bill). A common mistake I see: people apply for a solar capacity higher than their sanctioned load. In Noida, PVVNL will reject your feasibility request instantly if you try to install a 5kW system on a 3kW sanctioned load. You must first apply for a load enhancement on the PVVNL Rooftop Solar Portal or via the Jhatpat portal if you're under 5kW.

Once the feasibility is approved (usually within 7–10 days), you have the green light to start the installation.

Step 2: Technical Specs for Noida High-Rise Catchments

Noida is unique. Whether you are in Noida Extension or a bungalow in Sector 15, the wind speeds can be brutal, especially for systems installed on the 4th or 5th floor of builder floors.

We don't use "standard" structures in Noida anymore. The wind loads here require a minimum of 80-100 micron Hot Dip Galvanized (GI) structures. If your installer is suggesting a simple painted MS structure to save ₹10,000, walk away. In three years, that paint will peel, the structure will rust, and a heavy monsoon gust could lift your panels like a sail.

For high-rise catchments, we recommend Elevated Structures. These allow you to keep your roof space for walking while ensuring the panels are tilted at the optimum 25–27 degrees toward the South. You can check how much weight these add to your roof in our guide on solar panel weight.

Step 3: The "Noida Subsidy" Reality in 2026

I often get asked: "Is the UP subsidy extra?" Yes. In Noida, residential consumers benefit from a "Double Subsidy" stack. You get the Central Government subsidy via PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and a state-level top-up from UPNEDA.

For a 3kW system—the most popular size for a 3BHK—your total Noida solar subsidy is ₹1,08,000.

Comparison: Domestic vs Commercial Solar Rates (Noida 2026)

For business owners in Indirapuram or Noida’s commercial hubs, the lack of subsidy is offset by the higher tariff and the ability to claim depreciation. We’ve written a detailed guide for MSME solar costs if you’re looking at a larger B2B setup.

Step 4: Local PVVNL Office Verification & Net Metering

Once your plant is installed, we upload the Project Completion Report (PCR) on the portal. This triggers a visit from the local PVVNL Junior Engineer (JE).

Here is what the JE will check:

    1. Earthing & Lightning Arrester: If your earthing pits aren't showing a resistance below 5 ohms, they won't sign off.
    2. AC/DC Disconnects: You must have proper breakers to isolate the system.
    3. Module Make: They check if the panels match the ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) list—this is mandatory for getting the subsidy.

After the inspection, the pvvnl solar connection moves to the metering stage. You have to pay a small integration fee to PVVNL. The net meter is a "bidirectional" device that tracks how many units you gave to the grid and how many you took. If you're curious about the math, check our Solar Calculator to see how these units balance out.

One thing the sales guys won't tell you: Solar does NOT reduce your fixed charges. If your sanctioned load is 5kW, you will still pay the PVVNL fixed charge (approx ₹110 per kW in UP) every month. However, your energy charges—the biggest chunk of your bill—can drop to zero.

Real Example: A 5kW Setup in Noida Sector 76

A customer in a 3-floor builder floor in Sector 76 was paying an average of ₹9,500 monthly.

    • System Size: 5kW TOPCon Mono PERC
    • Sanctioned Load: 7kW (No load increase needed)
    • Gross Cost: ₹3,43,035 (Standard structure, including GST)
    • Total Subsidy: ₹1,08,000
    • Net Investment: ₹2,35,035
    • Generation: ~600 units/month
    • Current Bill: ~₹1,200 (Fixed charges + minor night consumption)

They chose to finance the system through a PSB Solar Loan. With SBI PM Surya Ghar Loan, their EMI is actually lower than their previous electricity bill savings.

    The Bridgeway Advantage in Noida

At Bridgeway Power, we’ve been doing this for over 35+ years. We don't just install panels; we handle the entire pvvnl solar connection paperwork, from feasibility to the final subsidy credit. Our team is based right here in the NCR, servicing areas like Ghaziabad and Faridabad with the same local expertise.

    FAQ

How much total subsidy can I get in Noida?

For residential rooftops, you can get up to ₹78,000 from the Central Government and an additional ₹30,000 from the UP State Government (UPNEDA), totaling ₹1,08,000 for systems of 3kW and above.

Can I install solar if I live in a Noida high-rise apartment?

Direct net metering for individual flats is difficult unless you have exclusive roof rights. However, many societies are now opting for Community Solar or using the common area roof to offset society maintenance bills via Virtual Net Metering.

Is the PVVNL net metering process different for Noida Extension?

The process remains the same as it falls under the same DISCOM (PVVNL). However, since many areas in Noida Extension have high wind speeds, we mandate heavy-duty mounting structures to ensure safety.

How do I track my solar application on the PVVNL rooftop solar portal?

You can track the status using your application number on the National Portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in). Local status updates regarding the JE visit can also be checked on the PVVNL consumer login page.

What happens to the surplus electricity I generate?

Surplus units are "banked" in your PVVNL account. At the end of the financial year (March 31st), any remaining surplus is settled at the APPC (Average Power Purchase Cost) rate, which is usually lower than the retail tariff. It’s always best to size your system to match your consumption rather than aiming for a massive surplus.

Do I need to clean my solar panels in Noida?

Absolutely. Noida’s air quality and dust levels can lead to a 25% loss in generation if not cleaned. We recommend at least two cleanings per month. For those who want a "set and forget" experience, we offer AMC Plans that include professional cleaning and health checks.

Every 1 kW of solar on your roof offsets 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ per year

That's 40 trees planted — every year, for 25 years.

A typical 5 kW home system offsets 187 tonnes of carbon over its lifetime. That's equivalent to taking 8 cars off the road.
