June 2026: DERC switches to monthly PPAC review

DERC has approved a switch from quarterly to monthly PPAC revisions. Newly sanctioned rates: BRPL 35.83%, BYPL 40.71%, TPDDL 36.33% — significantly above prior quarterly levels (BRPL 17.94%, BYPL 17.43%). Subsidised households (≤400 units) are largely shielded; high-consumption and commercial users see 7–18% bill increases.

    The DERC-Approved Slab Table

Delhi's last full tariff revision was 2014; the schedule was carried into FY 2021-22 and remains current. Only PPAC moves between revisions.

Why Your Bill Keeps Rising Even When Slabs Don't

Delhi hasn't seen a fresh DERC tariff order in years — the slab schedule has been effectively frozen since 2014. But your bill still climbs. The reason is PPAC (Power Purchase Adjustment Charge): a surcharge that lets DISCOMs pass through real-time changes in fuel and procurement costs.

In June 2026, DERC moved from quarterly to monthly PPAC revisions and sanctioned the highest rates in years — BRPL 17.94%, BYPL 17.43%, TPDDL 16.00%. For a household consuming 800 units, that's roughly Rs. 800–900 added on top of energy charges, plus 5% electricity tax compounding on the higher base.

The structural fix isn't switching DISCOMs (you can't) or hoping for a tariff cut (unlikely). It's reducing the units that pass through your meter — which is exactly what a rooftop solar system does, starting with the most expensive slabs.
