    Homeowner with a 3–10 kW rooftop in Delhi NCR or anywhere in North India. You either already own a system and your bill is creeping back up, or you''re shopping for an AMC and want to know what you''re actually paying for before someone quotes you.

    We''re not going to give you a price chart for cleaning.     1. Soiling — what your panels actually lose

    This is the biggest, least-understood lever in residential solar.

    Field reality (Bridgeway fleet observation): an uncleaned rooftop in Delhi NCR through April–June can lose up to 25% of its output. Aravalli dust, SPR construction belts, and pre-monsoon haze are the worst offenders. Cleaning monthly in dust-heavy belts (DLF, SPR, Greater Faridabad, Sector 150 Noida) recovers most of it; quarterly is usually too slow for NCR. Outside dust belts, monthly is sufficient.

    External corroboration: NREL''s soiling technical report (Solar Energy Research Institute) finds soiling losses globally range 0.05%–7% per day of accumulation depending on tilt, humidity and PM2.5 — NCR sits at the high end during pre-monsoon.


    2. Cleaning cadence — what we actually schedule

    This is from real route planning across our 1,300+ active O&M sites (5,000+ rooftops serviced lifetime), not a brochure. MNRE''s own O&M guidance (MNRE rooftop O&M PDF) says quarterly minimum — that''s the floor, not the optimum for NCR.


    3. The inverter — the real failure window

    This is the section homeowners never get told honestly.

    On the Bridgeway fleet, inverter issues start clustering at year 4–7. Not earlier. The three most common service calls in that window are:

    1. MCB tripping — usually a grid voltage excursion or earthing fault, not the inverter itself
    2. DC-side connector burn-out — MC4 connectors that were never torqued properly at install
    3. Internal fan or capacitor degradation — the inverter is genuinely aging; this is the one that often signals a replacement decision

    What a basic repair starts at: Rs. 1,500 in Delhi NCR. That covers a diagnostic visit plus a board-level fix. Parts (capacitors, fans, MC4s, MCBs) are billed separately. A full inverter swap is quoted in writing — never assume.

    For the standards-curious, IEC 62446-1 defines the inspection and test cycle the industry uses, and Tata Power Solar''s service docs outline a similar O&M scope.


    4. What maintenance actually costs

    We don''t publish a price table. There''s a reason: cost depends on system size, roof access (single-storey vs setback-heavy duplex), travel zone, and whether your inverter is still under warranty. A flat Rs. X/kW number lets bad operators undercut on paper and skip half the visits.

    What an honest quote covers — make sure your AMC includes all of these:

    • Scheduled cleaning (cadence specific to your zone — see table above)
    • Quarterly visual + thermal inspection of strings, junction boxes, earthing
    • Inverter health log + alarm review (if you have monitoring)
    • Annual IR (insulation resistance) test on DC side — IEC 62446 requirement
    • Same-week response window for breakdowns
    • Written report after every visit

    5. DIY vs pro — when to stop

    DIY is fine for:

    • Visual checks — daily inverter status, monthly walk-around
    • Soft-brush surface cleaning at sunrise, no pressure-washer

    Stop and call someone the moment you see any of these:

    • Hot spot — a darker cell or scorch mark visible on a panel. This means a bypass diode has failed and the panel is feeding back into itself
    • MCB trips repeatedly — more than once per week
    • Inverter shows fault codes that clear and recur — capacitor degradation pattern
    • Connector discolouration at the rooftop combiner — MC4 burn-out precursor

    These need an IV-curve trace and an isolation test, neither of which is a homeowner job.

    6. Monsoon prep — the one week of the year that matters

    Three things to do every June, before the first heavy rain:

    1. Tighten every DC connector on the roof. MC4s loosen with thermal cycling and burn when water gets in.
    2. Check earthing continuity — most inverter trips in Jul–Sep are earthing faults, not inverter faults.
    3. Clear roof drains around the panel array. Standing water + 45°C panel underside = condensation inside the junction box.

    7. MNRE & IEC compliance — for the technically minded

    If you''re shortlisting an AMC vendor and want to test them, ask:

    • Do they follow MNRE O&M guidelines for cadence and reporting?
    • Do they conduct IEC 62446-1 commissioning checks at first visit on a system they didn''t install?
    • Do they issue a written report — not a WhatsApp photo — after every visit?

    A no on any of these is a no on the contract.

    How much does solar panel maintenance cost in Delhi NCR?

    How often should I get my solar panels cleaned in India?

    NCR dust belts (DLF, SPR, Sector 150, Greater Faridabad): fortnightly. Other NCR residential zones: monthly. Outside NCR and away from construction or industry: monthly to bi-monthly. MNRE''s quarterly minimum is a floor, not an optimum.

    Should I clean my solar panels myself?

    Soft brush + bucket + tap water at sunrise: yes. Pressure-washer: never — it delaminates the EVA and voids panel warranty. Anything involving the inverter, combiner box, or DC connectors: call a professional.

    What does monsoon do to a rooftop solar system?

    Heavy rain cleans surface dust (good). It also exposes loose MC4 connectors and weak earthing (bad — these cause most July inverter trips). A pre-monsoon torque + earthing check in late May is the single most cost-effective service of the year.

    When do inverters typically fail?

    On our active O&M fleet of 1,300+ sites (5,000+ rooftops touched lifetime), year 4–7 is when first service calls cluster. Most issues at that age are MCB trips, DC connector burn-out, or fan/capacitor degradation — repairable, not a full replacement. A full swap typically only becomes the right call in year 9+.

    What''s a hot spot and is it dangerous?

    A hot spot is a small darker patch on a panel where one cell is being reverse-biased through a failed bypass diode. It''s a fire risk if left running for months. Visible during a daytime visual check; confirmed via thermal imaging. Stop using the affected string and call a pro.

    Does an AMC void or affect my panel/inverter warranty?

    No — an AMC by a qualified third party is explicitly permitted under MNRE O&M guidelines and major manufacturer warranties (Tata, Waaree, Adani, Luminous, Microtek, all the standard players). What can void warranty is unauthorised opening of the inverter chassis or pressure-washing the panels.

    Should I sign an AMC or call someone only when something breaks?

    On our 25 MW+ active O&M fleet across 1,300+ rooftops (5,000+ serviced lifetime), we''ve compared both. Ad-hoc breakdown calls cost roughly 6× per year what a scheduled AMC costs, once you count the generation lost during downtime + the higher per-visit travel charges + the missed soiling between calls. AMC wins on cost for any system above ~3 kW. Below that, ad-hoc may be defensible.
