DHBVN won't give my Chattarpur farmhouse a sanctioned load above 5 kW. Can I still install 35 kW solar?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a true off-grid or partial hybrid system. We've installed 30+ kW systems on farmhouses where DHBVN refused load enhancement — the solar + LFP battery bank runs everything independently, and a small grid tap is kept for monsoon backup. Net metering isn't available in this case, but the diesel-replacement math still gives a 5–6 year payback.

Roof isn't enough for 50 kW. Can panels go on the ground?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ground-mount on open plots typically costs 8–12% more than rooftop (steel structures, trenching) but unlocks unlimited capacity and is much easier to clean. On 1+ acre farmhouses we usually recommend a hybrid: rooftop for primary load, ground-mount carport doubling as parking shade and EV-charge zone.

Lithium vs lead-acid for a 50 kW farmhouse — what's the honest call?

Accepted Answer

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) every time. Lead-acid looks cheaper upfront (~30% less) but needs replacement at year 4–5, takes triple the floor space, and degrades fast in Delhi summer heat. Over 10 years, lithium costs less, occupies half the room, and gives 2× usable backup. Lead-acid only makes sense if your budget is truly capped and you're okay replacing batteries twice.

Is net metering allowed for farmhouses in Haryana / Gurgaon?

Accepted Answer

Yes. DHBVN and UHBVN both allow domestic net metering up to 500 kW on 3-phase connections — well above any farmhouse residential need. Farmhouses on agricultural connections need to switch to domestic tariff first; we handle this conversion as part of the project. Surplus generation credits roll over for 12 months.

Will the panels look industrial? We have visible setbacks.

Accepted Answer

All-black panels (matte frame, black backsheet) are available at ~8% premium and look nearly invisible from ground level. For ground-mount on farmhouse lawns, we use single-axis trackers in low-profile rows behind shrubs, or pergola-mount over the parking area — never the flat industrial look you see in commercial installs. Elevation drawings shared before any concrete is poured.
