8 Solar Energy Myths
Solar Energy can be used in many ways but there are few myths that stop people from adopting solar energy. Let's bust these myths one by one:
1. Solar Energy is expensive
The solar PV system is a one time cost to produce electricity at home. The system works for 25 years to give you free electricity. By using solar energy, you produce electricity free of cost. In fact, solar can be considered a better investment than any other instrument.
2. Size of the house defines the price of solar panels
The price of the solar panels depends entirely on the electricity needs of the house owner. The size of the rooftop and your electricity bills define how many solar panels you need.
3. Solar panels can cause damage to the roof
The solar PV system does not cause any damage to the roof. Panels are not directly attached to the roof. They are mounted on the roof. Panels also protect the roof from getting heated as the heat which was getting wasted earlier is producing electricity for you.
4: Solar energy can still work when the electricity goes out
If the system is on-grid, the solar panel generates electricity when the grid is supplying electricity. When there is no power from the grid, the solar panels stop generating electricity. There is no to & fro of energy at that time. However, you can use solar energy when the electricity goes out only by using a solar battery which stores the electricity produced for a later stage.
5. Solar needs lots of maintenance
Solar PV system installation is a one time thing and after that, it doesn’t need much maintenance. The only thing you need to do is to keep your panels clean to maintain efficiency.
6. Selling a house with solar is difficult
Just like the solar doesn’t cause any damage to the roof, it doesn’t reduce the value of the property. In fact, it can increase the value of the property. The house with solar has free electricity generation meaning no electricity bill adding to the overall value of the property.
7. Excess solar energy produced will be wasted
The solar PV system on the grid produces electricity for your consumption, the excess generation is exported to the grid which can be used at a later stage. The excess energy is not wasted but used by you without any extra electricity bill.
8. Solar Panels don’t produce electricity in presence of clouds or in winters.
Solar panels produce electricity in all the weather, be it summer or winter. Clouds don’t stop panels from producing electricity. The efficiency of the energy generated may vary, but it is still comparable to what is getting produced in summer.
