2 kW rooftop solar system installed in Delhi

A 2 kW system is the entry point for Delhi homes — 1 BHKs, small 2 BHKs, or anyone with a ₹1,500-2,200 monthly bill. Under BSES/TPDDL, 2 kW comfortably fits inside the standard 3 kW sanctioned load most Delhi homes already have, so no load enhancement is needed. PM Surya Ghar pays ₹60,000 (the full upTo2kW slab), and Delhi adds ₹20,000 on top. Four 580 Wp panels need roughly 140 sqft of shadow-free roof — workable on most parapet-bound Delhi terraces.

The discom-specific rules that decide whether your 2 kW system gets approved.

    Net Metering Policy

DERC allows 1:1 net metering up to your sanctioned load. Export above sanctioned load is permitted under net-billing, not full net-metering.

DERC Net Metering Regulations, 2014 (amended 2019)

    Sanctioned Load Rule

Your rooftop kW cannot exceed sanctioned load without a load-enhancement application to BSES/TPDDL first. We check this before quoting.

Applies to all rooftop sizes including 2 kW

    Delhi State Subsidy

Delhi state top-up of ₹10,000/kW (capped ₹30,000) stacks on PM Surya Ghar. Listed Delhi cabinet approval, currently being disbursed.

The 2 kW gotcha in Delhi

BSES sometimes asks for a parapet shadow study above 2 kW in dense colonies. At exactly 2 kW it's almost always waived.
